Ce safari de quatre jours est conçu autant autour de la culture que de l'observation de la faune, avec un seul lodge à Mto wa Mbu comme base pour limiter les trajets. Après une journée de gros gibier à Tarangire, vous partez vers le sud jusqu'au lac Eyasi pour passer du temps avec les Hadzabe, l'un des derniers peuples chasseurs-cueilleurs au monde, et les Datoga, pasteurs semi-nomades et forgerons traditionnels — deux modes de vie réellement différents à moins d'une heure l'un de l'autre.

Le troisième jour reste local, à la découverte de Mto wa Mbu à pied : marche en village, repas et échanges avec la communauté qui a fait de cette petite ville de la vallée du Rift l'une des plus diversifiées culturellement de Tanzanie. Le voyage se termine par un safari matinal au lac Manyara avant le retour à Arusha.

Depart Arusha in the morning for the two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Spend the day on a game drive along the Tarangire River, known for hosting some of the largest elephant herds in Africa alongside zebra, wildebeest and giraffe, all set among the park's iconic ancient baobab trees. In the late afternoon, continue the drive to Mto wa Mbu for dinner and overnight at My Africa.

Lake Eyasi – Hadzabe & Datoga Communities

After an early breakfast, drive south to Lake Eyasi with packed lunch boxes for the day. Spend the morning with the Hadzabe, one of the last true hunter-gatherer peoples on earth, joining a hunting or foraging walk led by the family hosting you. In the afternoon, visit the Datoga, semi-nomadic pastoralists and skilled blacksmiths, and watch tools, arrowheads and jewellery being forged by hand over a charcoal fire the traditional way. Return to Mto wa Mbu in the evening for dinner and overnight at My Africa.

Spend the day exploring Mto wa Mbu itself, a farming and trading town at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment where more than a hundred ethnic groups live and work side by side. A local guide leads a village walk through banana, rice and coffee plantations, with a local food experience and time to interact directly with the community — a slower, grounded day between the wildlife and culture on either side of it.

Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha

Breakfast Lunch Safari ends — no accommodation

After breakfast, drive the short distance to Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive through groundwater forest, open grassland and the flamingo-fringed shallows of the soda lake. Manyara is known for its tree-climbing lions and rich birdlife, with elephant, buffalo and giraffe often seen along the lakeshore. After lunch, continue the drive back to Arusha, arriving in the afternoon where your safari ends.

We work through local guides who have long-standing relationships with specific Hadzabe and Datoga families, and a fair visit fee goes directly to the community hosting you rather than a fixed tourist show.

How early does the Lake Eyasi day start?

Early — Hadzabe hunting parties leave at first light, so we depart Mto wa Mbu after an early breakfast to reach Lake Eyasi in time to join them, with packed lunch boxes for the day.

Where do we stay for all three nights?

At My Africa in Mto wa Mbu, used as a single base for the whole safari — this keeps the itinerary simple, with no need to pack and move each day.

Is this trip physically demanding?

The Lake Eyasi walk with the Hadzabe covers uneven bush terrain and can run a couple of hours, while the Mto wa Mbu day is flatter and easier — both are adaptable to the group's pace.

Can Ngorongoro Crater be added to this itinerary?
